Managing time is something everyone try to achieve and fail time and again. Therefore the knowledge and training in Time Management Skills is essential for all. It is a skill that is needed to be successful in life. A little time devoted to learning and practicing time management will get you to greater heights. There are certain things that you need to do once you decide to get the most out of your available time.
The foremost thing would be to avoid procrastination and delay in starting a task. Keep deadlines in mind yet do not strain yourself. Take pride in doing a work properly and in time, rather than doing it just to meet the deadline. Aim for maximum quality and productivity. If you manage time properly and allot time for relaxation, you can see that you are able to get quality time to spend for your own self and others.
Though time management is difficult to achieve, constant effort and practice will get you to it soon. You cannot follow others' time schedule as each and every one of us have different tasks to do and we do different tasks in our own way. You need to work out your own work pattern.
Tips for Achieving Maximum Utility of Your Time
Organize yourself. Use a notepad or a simple note-book to list out the things you are going to do for the day. You can have the main things listed out first and the remaining as sub-tasks or complementary tasks. Sometimes we end up making lengthy lists and resent looking at it later on. Prioritize the works that has to be done first. If you do this you can avoid the guilty feeling of not doing things that were most important and wasting time in something else. Sometimes the most important works are very hard to start. Only when you try to put the list in an order, you realize the importance of that difficult or complex work. Once you complete this work you will definitely feel happy and satisfied and you deserve a reward for yourself. You can use your lighter works like walking, showering etc to relax your mind and also plan your works a little. You get ideas to work efficiently when you are relaxed.
Diligence in Avoiding Pitfalls
Your mind will be more focused once your are organized. Multitasking may be needed at times, but you need to keep in mind that it may hamper the productivity of the task and delay you in fact, rather than speeding you up in completing your tasks. When you concentrate on one thing at a time, productivity and the speed with which you complete the task will be comparatively more. Procrastination is the first thing you must avoid as it works against you in many ways.
Another pitfall is when you take something more than what you can handle. Though you may be efficient in doing that work, getting help from others to do it may help you. You may point out your requirements clearly so you can get the expected results. This way you can avoid dumping yourself with more work. Delegating work is advantageous in many ways. You can be sure of the task getting completed and you also train someone to take over the task in your absence.
Have a Long-term Goal to complete Tasks at Hand
Have a long-term plan as well. Trying to complete the tasks a day demands, you may tend to forget your long-term plans. Setting a plan for a year, for five years, and at certain time in your future, will make you work more focused and plan your tasks at hand. Deadlines are always scary, especially when others set it for you. Better you set your own deadlines, so that you can avoid the aggravation, worry and stress caused due to deadlines. Challenge yourself to beat your deadlines and treat yourself to a good reward once you achieve it. There are also time that you can save by avoiding in diverting yourself from work and indulging in wasting your time in unwanted activities like the break you take in between tasks. You can have an update of the time you waste like this, so that you can allot the time for some productive work.
You tend to forget to allot time for quality relaxation of mind and body. You can relax in a spa or a parlor or in a friend's house playing your favorite game or simply chatting. Make sure it relaxes you. Review yourself for the completion of works, health condition of your body, nourishment and care you give for yourself and your family etc so that you can be sure of planning and executing your tasks without spoiling your health and becoming stressed out.
